KR PURAM

KR Puram, officially known as Krishnarajapuram, is one of Bengaluru’s oldest and most historically significant localities. Located in the eastern part of the city, it serves as a major transportation hub connecting Bengaluru to Whitefield, Old Madras Road, and the Outer Ring Road. Today, KR Puram is known for its iconic cable-stayed bridge, metro connectivity, and thriving residential and commercial developments.

The history of KR Puram dates back more than 1,200 years. Historical evidence suggests that the area was originally known as “Hosauru” (New Village) during the Ganga dynasty period. Ancient hero stones (Veeragallu) discovered in the region indicate the presence of settlements during the reign of Ganga rulers. Over time, the village grew into an important agricultural settlement. During the early 19th century, the area was renamed Krishnarajapuram in honor of Maharaja Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar of Mysore. The arrival of the Madras–Bangalore railway line in the late 19th century transformed KR Puram into a major transportation and trading center. Its weekly market (Santhe) became famous among farmers from Kolar, Mulbagal, and surrounding regions. Today, KR Puram stands as a perfect blend of Bengaluru’s historical heritage and modern urban development.
